Using Twitter Data to Predict Box Office Revenues

We summarize an effort to predict box office revenues using Twitter data. It is hypothesized that an increased number of tweets about a movie before its release will result in increased box office revenue. Our task can be decomposed into two subtasks: the estimation of the frequency of tweets about particular movies and revenue prediction given this frequency.
